AR os : Runaway Girl

She slowly tiptoed out of the house at 2 in the morning wearing a blue t-shirt and jeans and trainers with only a small bag. She was running away. She reached the end of the road and turned left not really knowing where she was going. Suddenly a bright light shone in her eyes.

After a hectic day at work, he made his way home by car hoping to reach home soon so that he could sleep!  He was nearing his home when he saw a girl with a bag looking like she waiting for a lift. He didn't know why, but he stopped his car and asked her if she wanted a lift.

"Um, no! Actually, yes!"

He wanted to laugh. He could clearly work out that she was running away from home. Nevertheless, he decided to help her forgetting about his dear sleep. He watched her get into the car. He looked at her face. It seemed somewhat similar.

"Where shall I drop you?" he asked her, knowing very well that she doesn't have a clue where she was going to go.

"Um, not sure just go and drop me far away as you can from where you saw me"

He looked at her amused. So he asked his next question.

"Didn't your lover tell you where to meet up with him? Or haven't you even told him that you were running away?"

"What?!" she half screamed and she turned her head swiftly to look at the driver for the first time.

Oh my god, it's him, she thought.

He hadn't changed much. He was the same good looking guy all the girls in college were mad over 3 years back. Just looking at him brought her several memories...

"What do you mean what?" he asked, "You are running away right?"

"Yeah, but I don't have a lover"

"What?!" Now it was his turn to be shocked

"I am running away from my wedding because I don't want to get married"

"Why?"

"I'm not interested in marriage..."

"Really?" He knew she was lying.

"Ok, I might as well tell you. My step mother decided to get me married off to her bearded brother who is like fifty so that she can get hold of the all the property that is in my name"

"Oh, I see," he replied. He tried to change the topic so he asked...

"What your name?"

"Riddhima"

"Um, aren't you going to ask my name?" he asked.

"Everyone knows your name, Armaan" she blurted out without realising it.

"How do you know my name?"

There was no use lying so she replied, "I was in the same college as you. You were in the same class as me."

"Really?" He was once again shocked. He looked at her again carefully. Suddenly realisation hit him.

"Oh my god it's you! Riddhima!"

"Isn't that what I just said my name was?"

"Shut up! You've changed so much! New hairstyle! No glasses! You even dress differently! Wow, are you in some disguise?"

"Armaan! I haven't changed that much! You've just forgotten me!"

"Not rely. You were the most studious girl in college. In fact, you were the only studious girl in college." he said laughing.

"Ha ha. Very funny!"she said sarcastically.

They sat in silence for a while. Riddhima, getting bored, tried to start a conversation...

"So what do you do now?" she asked him.

"Business. You?"

"Um, nothing as of now but I..."she stopped and then said...

"Armaan, where are we?"

Suddenly he stopped the car.

He noticed that he had been staring at her for so long that he didn't realise when he had driven into a...forest!!!

"I'm not exactly sure..."

"Great! Thanks, anyway, for the lift! No one will think of looking for me here. You turn back and go home" she said and walked further into the forest.

He stared at her. He was upset that their journey had ended here. So without giving it a second thought, he decided to follow her.

"Hey" he said tapping on her shoulder

"What are you doing here? I told you to go back..."

"I can't just let a girl go into the forest on her own and that too at night"

"Good excuse for following me"

"Okay, fine! I was just upset that you left like that!"

"That's more like it!"

They continued walking through the forest for about 3 hours talking about nothing but everything. They realised that they had so much to talk about with each other. Armaan had started to develop feelings for Riddhima by now. It had only been a few hours but he felt that she had always been more than just a classmate.

"You know, I kind of regret not getting to know you better when we were in college. But at the same time I can't help feeling that I know you really well," Armaan said.

Riddhima just smiled.

"Well, it's not too late now! We can still get to know each other. So let me start! What is your latest girlfriend's name? Or have you forgotten that already after seeing me?"

"Ha ha! Very funny!" he said sarcastically.

"I know I am" she replied ignoring his sarcasm, "anyway, you haven't answered my question"

"I don't have one at the moment, but I'm hoping that you can help me with that"

"Oy, go and look for someone else for that"

"Ok, cool girl, you're the one who triggered it"

"Whatever, um you ask me a question"

"Favourite colour?"

"Blue"

"Favourite actor?"

"Shahid Kapoor"

"Favourite movie?"

"Ghajini"

Then, it suddenly started pouring with rain. Armaan quickly ran to take shelter under a tree. He watched Riddhima just standing there enjoying the rain.

"Oy, girl! It's raining! "

"So what? Don't you enjoy the rain?"

"Urgh, so typical of you Indian girls to like the rain. Let me guess, now you are going to sing and dance?"

"No, I am not much of a great singer!"

"God, girl! You're in a forest! Not next to the guy you fancy!"

"Okay, I'll sing just because you asked me"

She started singing. He was mesmerised by her voice. Unknowingly he stepped closer to her, forgetting that he was getting wet in the rain. Soon she stopped singing.

"Wow, you are amazing!"

"Thanks! And you are wet!"

"What?!" He looked at himself and he was completely drenched. He quickly ran back into his shelter.

Riddhima just laughed seeing him run back like a shy girl.

Soon the rain stopped and Riddhima decided to take a rest so she went and sat on a log.

"Tired, already?" Armaan questioned.

"Can we rest for a bit? I'm exhausted!"

"The quicker we get out of here, the safer you are, away from your evil stepmother and bearded fianc"

"Urgh, don't even remind me of him. Fine, let's go" she got up holding onto Armaan, "but how far do we have to walk, man?"

"Just a bit"

"Do you even know where we are?"

"No, but I can see that we've nearly reached the other end. Do you see that road?"

"Yeah kind of... Oh my god! Yay! I don't have to walk anymore!"

They reached the road and found themselves in a sort of village. Armaan spotted a cottage which he decided to rent. They went inside and sat down.

"Thanks for everything, Armaan! I think you should head back! I don't think they would find me here! I mean, it's such an isolated place!"

"I'm not leaving anytime soon. I just got here!"

"Don't you have work?"

"Nothing is more important than you"

She froze. Did he really mean that? Probably not.

"Anyway," he continued, "My mother is trying to get me married to a bearded woman!"

"Hey! Are you making fun of me? Anyway, you can stay. But make sure you phone your mum and tell her where you are. She'll get worried."

"What shall I phone and tell her? That I've run away with a girl?"

"Are you planning on staying here with me as well?"

"Do you have any problem with that?"

"No, but..."

"Shh," He stopped her, "I was getting bored of life anyway"

"Does that mean you run away from home?"

"You did"

"I ran away because they were trying to get me married to beardy"

"So, you tell them that you won't marry him. Don't be scared!"

"I'm not scared!"

"You are"

"Am not!"

"You are!"

"Okay, maybe a bit. But I can't go back! They'll kill me!"

"They won't! Am I not there for you?"

There he goes again, she thought. As much as she tried to forget the past and her love for him, she just couldn't.

Yes, she loved him and still does. It all started when she had watched a movie. In that film, the hero writes anonymous love letters to heroine and signs off at the end of each letter as "Mr X". And, of course, the heroine also falls in love with "Mr X". So she decided to try this with Armaan, who she had a huge crush on and at the end of each of her letters she signed off as "Miss X". Big mistake! The crush on her side soon developed into love! She never knew whether he loved her as well. At first she thought that he didn't but now he was starting to confuse her even more.

"Okay, let's go!" she announced and they headed back home.

When they reached home she got scared. He told her to give him her number so he can contact her. He gave her piece of paper and she wrote it down. He soon left her and said that he will call her in the evening.

This is it, she thought, and she walked into her house...

3 months later

She had managed to chase out her evil stepmother and her bearded brother with the help of some friends. However, she was still upset. Why? Armaan hadn't contacted her ever since he left her. She tried to not take it at heart but couldn't help but cry sometimes.

One day, when she came home from work, she saw a light coming from the dining room. She went inside to see candles lit up. And gentle music playing in the background. Suddenly, she heard a voice. A very familiar one too...

"Riddhima or shall I say "Miss X", from the day I saw you waiting for a lift, I couldn't take my eyes off you. I couldn't stop thinking about you. I knew I had fallen for you and I also knew that you had got to be "Miss X". I know you must be thinking, then why the hell I didn't contact you for 3 months. Well, you kept me in the dark for 3 years without telling me that you were my "Miss X" so I decided to keep you waiting for a bit too. You don't know how much I had fallen in love with you in your every letter. And I love you."

She stood there, rooted to the spot. She couldn't believe that he actually loved her. She suddenly gained strength and ran into his arms.

"I love you too" she said.

"I know" he replied

"But how the hell did you find out for sure that I was "Miss X"?"

"From you my darling"

"What?!"

He took out a piece of paper from his pocket. She opened it up and saw her phone number.

"What? It is the piece of paper I wrote my number on to give to you"

"Look below the number"

There she saw that she had signed off as "Miss X".

"How the hell did that happen?"

"You had written me so many letters that the habit hadn't worn off," he laughed.

"I guess so"

They laughed. Life couldn't get any more perfect for Armaan and Riddhima...
